Dec 5th 2007 :: James Karney's book a top pick by shutterbug magazine

Mastering Digital Wedding Photography is being named to Shutterbug Magazine’s Top Digital Books of 2007 list.  It is featured in an article in the December 2007 issue of the magazine and on the website (on the web page) here:
http://www.shutterbug.com/book_reviews/1207digitalbooks/index3.html/
Mastering Digital Wedding Photography; by James Karney; Thomson Course Technology; 432 pages; $39.99; (ISBN: 1-59863-329-5)

The art and business of wedding photography is so complex and challenging that I encourage anyone considering entering the field to read as many different books on the subject as they can, and this is one of the better ones. Given its title, much space is given to hardware, software, and the web, but the author also manages to include information on the equally important aspects such as paperwork and business aspects of wedding photography that newcomers will be surprised to learn takes more of their time than photography. While I would have liked to see more photographs, it’s a mild quibble given the high quality of what does make it onto the pages.

May 31 2007 :: New wedding photography book featuring FotoFusion

LumaPix is pleased to announce that James Karney's latest book, "Mastering Digital Wedding Photography", has been published and is now available for purchase. This practical guide to the art and business of digital wedding photography covers workflow, file management and marketing techniques in addition to actual production techniques.

LumaPix::FotoFusion is presented as the tool of choice in the album layout section, which discusses production workflow with specific techniques using the FotoFusion user interface. Karney summarizes FotoFusion as follows:

"FutoFusion can produce Adobe Acrobat PDFs, Photoshop files for retouching or additional design enhancements, GIFs and PNG files for the web, or reduced-size images to use in promotional print products like mailers and brochures. The program also offers a direct e-mail output option. The user can specify the file quality and size, add watermarks, create an e-mail envelope with message, and send the results, all from within FotoFusion. We use this feature to get quick approval of any final changes. This makes it easy to get the couple's okay on a layout change or to verify any outstanding items without the need for a meeting. The reply also provides a record of their approval. FutoFusion does more in our studio than just albums. The precise layout and collage features make it a natural for DVD covers, posters, class and sports teams, etc."

LumaPix congratulates James on the publication of this timely and useful book and encourages anybody interested in the business of wedding photography to order a copy for themselves.

Simply download the Free Trial and try it out for yourself! It will be installed into a new folder, so you can keep working in v3.X while you evaluate upgrading to v4.

This is a 'major' upgrade, our first since shipping v3 in the spring of 2004. You'll be glad to learn that existing users are eligible for a 50% discount on the new price of this version if you choose to upgrade.

Note that if you purchased FotoFusion v3.X on or after Sept 1 2006, you are entitled to upgrade to v4 at no charge, as part of the 'grace period' for new purchases. Simply install v4 and activate it using your existing user ID.

Jan 24 2007 :: LumaPix ceases lab uploads

IMPORTANT:

FotoFusion’s support for lab upload will end on March 1 2007.
The volume of lab transmissions via the pro lab tab did not justify the cost of supporting this connection.

We strongly encourage you to send any work currently in your pipeline prior to this date. All other aspects of FotoFusion (local rendering, printing, web gallery upload, emails, etc) will continue on as expected.

The Lab Upload functionality was offered at no charge (free trials of FotoFusion v3.X could upload to labs without watermarks).
If you bought FotoFusion between Oct 2005 and Jan 2006 (when lab upload was a paid feature of FotoFusion Studio) and consider uploading a core part of your studio business, then please contact support@LumaPix.com.

Many customers flattened their FotoFusion compositions (after either color correcting the source images themselves, or getting pre-corrected source images from their labs) and then uploaded the resulting monolithic images to labs using other tools. This alternative pipeline will continue to work: render your compositions to flat files, and then upload those images to labs for output using other tools.

The following labs offer their customers access to color-corrected source images:

We deeply regret any inconvenience that this change causes.

Sincerely,

—The LumaPix Team—
